摘要: 实验室硕士生 Md Abu Bakar(筱时)在导师俞东进教授指导下,参加在华留学生电子信息学科前沿学术论坛。
From 28 to 30 October 2026, Md Abu Bakar (筱时), a master’s student in our lab, supervised by Prof. Dongjin Yu, took part in the 2026 UESTC Frontiers Academic Forum in Electronic Information Disciplines for International Students in China. The forum was held at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu. He gave an oral presentation on his research and received a Certificate of Participation from the organisers.

The forum was organised by the School of International Education of UESTC and co-organised by its School of Electronic Science and Engineering. It brought together international graduate students from universities across China to share their work in electronic information and related fields. The programme opened on 29 October with a keynote speech by Prof. Zhang Ping on terahertz radiation sources that combine vacuum electronics and semiconductor technologies, followed by a poster session and parallel oral presentation sessions.

Md Abu Bakar’s talk was titled “Governing AI Agents in Business Processes: Rules Mined from Event Logs and Confidence-Based Human Oversight.” It started from a practical question: as AI agents begin to take real actions inside company processes, such as approving a payment or cancelling an order, how can organisations keep them under control? He presented two connected pieces of work. The first, published at IEEE ICAIM 2026, estimates how reliable each AI decision is before it is carried out and sends the uncertain cases to a person. On a real bank loan dataset, this approach caught the model’s critical errors before they took effect and reduced total process cost by about 30%. The second, a manuscript in preparation, learns the rules an agent must follow from an organisation’s own event logs rather than from written documents, and checks every action the agent proposes against them. Across seven public datasets, the mined rules almost never blocked legitimate work, while they stopped rule-breaking actions that rules written from documents missed.

Beyond his own presentation, the forum was a valuable chance to learn from others. During the poster session he discussed work ranging from trustworthy medical image classification to infrared detection of early ageing in high-voltage cable joints. He also met scholars and students from Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications and other universities, and exchanged views on their research directions and progress.

On the final day, participants visited EIR Technology, a humanoid robot company incubated at UESTC, at the Sichuan Provincial Humanoid Robot Training Ground. There they saw the SkyWalker humanoid robots and the AIQ companion robot up close, and learned how university research is being turned into real products.

Reflecting on the experience, Md Abu Bakar said that preparing the talk taught him to explain his research clearly to an audience from many different fields, and that the conversations at the forum gave him fresh ideas for the next stage of his work. He added that gathering with academics from so many different fields was a truly great experience, and that visiting the robotics company showed him how research and its real-world impact come together. He thanked the School of International Education (SIE) of HDU and Prof. Dongjin Yu for supporting his participation.
